Vintage Germany Rainbow Spell Out T-Shirt 80s
“Germany,” repeated eight times in a cascading diagonal, each line in a different color — blue, silver, brown, maroon, red, orange, and back around again — on gold cotton. This is the same repeated-word “spell-out” template Artex ran across its entire catalog in the 80s: swap in a college mascot and it’s a Penn State tee, swap in a ballclub and it’s a Minnesota Twins tee, swap in a country name and it’s this one. The design didn’t care what it was selling; it just needed a word simple enough to stack eight times without going unreadable.
Made by Artex, a division of Jostens, in 100% combed cotton — the same maker behind the “No Where Else But Hahn, Germany” jersey tee elsewhere in this collection, suggesting both came off the same PX or gift-shop shelf serving American military families stationed in Germany through the 80s.
One word, repeated until the color ran out.
