Vintage Royal Knight Diamond Shoulder Striped Sweatshirt 80s

For most of its life the sweatshirt was gym equipment — gray, plain, cut to be sweated in and forgotten. Then the 80s fitness boom hit. Jane Fonda’s first workout tape landed in 1982, “Physical” and Flashdance pushed leotards and leg warmers onto people who’d never set foot in an aerobics class, and suddenly athletic clothing was something you wore to look like you’d just come from somewhere, not to actually go there.

The sweatshirt got redesigned to keep up. Color-blocked shoulder panels, contrast piping, angled stripes borrowed from real warm-up jackets — details that made a piece read athletic on sight, whether it ever saw a gym or not. This one runs navy, white, and red panels down from the collar into a V, with matching red banding at the cuffs, on a body that’s otherwise standard heather gray.

Sportswear for people who mostly just wanted to look sporty.
