Vintage Galloping Horses Mirage Reflection T-Shirt 80s
Five bays running through shallow water, spray coming off their hooves, and beneath them the whole scene repeated upside down in the surface — the reflection takes up as much of the shirt as the horses do. That mirrored composition was the entire selling point, and it turns up again and again on wildlife tees of this era.
This is a specimen of one of the biggest graphic categories there ever was. Through the 80s and 90s, airbrushed wildlife tees moved in staggering numbers through gift shops, truck stops, state fairs, and mail-order catalogs — wolves howling at moons, eagles against flags, dolphins, tigers, and horses running loose. Houses like The Mountain and Liquid Blue built entire businesses on it. The work was usually painted by hand, photographed, and separated for screen printing, and the good ones show it in the shading.
Printed on a Miller blank with no artist credit anywhere on the garment.
A genre that sold millions of shirts and rarely bothered signing them.
