Vintage Riders in the Sky The Great Trail Drive T-Shirt 80s

A bronc rider mid-buck inside a rope-bordered banner, full moon behind him, signed Jay Peterson 1983 in small red type beneath the horse.

1983 was a hinge year for the band this was printed for. Riders in the Sky had joined the Grand Ole Opry the year before, put out Weeds & Water in ’83, and started hosting Tumbleweed Theater on TNN — a show where they introduced old B-Westerns in character. Radio, television, and a CBS Saturday morning kids’ show all followed.

The trio came to cowboy music sideways. Ranger Doug was a music historian who’d go on to write the standard book on the singing-cowboy era. Too Slim had worked as a janitor, a puppeteer, a burlesque emcee, and a wildlife manager. Woody Paul held a doctorate. Ranger Doug once called them the most needlessly educated guys in America, and they spent their careers both honoring the Sons of the Pioneers and gently sending them up.

Printed on a Hanes Beefy-T in cowboy-shirt blue.

A tribute act with a Ph.D., a moon, and a rope border.
