Vintage London Fog Suede Leather Jacket 90s Deadstock

Two pieces of paper are still on this jacket. One is a factory bundle ticket — CUT 6784, BDL. #2049, SIZE 46L, QTY. 10 — the slip that traveled with a stack of cut pieces through the sewing floor and was supposed to come off before the garment left the plant. The other is a T.J. Maxx price tag: PAST SEASON, COMPARE AT $110.00, OUR PRICE $59.99. Nobody ever bought it, and nobody ever wore it.

The brand is a raincoat company. Israel Myers took over a failing Baltimore outfit in the 1930s, renamed it Londontown because the old name sounded too much like “rotten clothing,” and spent fifteen years working out a wash-and-wear raincoat, finally cracking it with Dacron in 1953. By 1975 two-thirds of all mid-priced raincoats sold in America carried a London Fog label.

Suede came later. The company bought Star Sportswear of Lynn, Massachusetts, a leather and suede specialist, and folded that capability into the line — which is how a jacket like this exists.

A garment that made it through the factory, onto a clearance rack, and no further.
