Aullwood Audubon Summer Earth Adventures T-Shirt Reptiles 2003

Marie Aull gave seventy acres outside Dayton to the National Audubon Society in 1957, and what grew there became the first nature center in the Midwest — a working farm and a sanctuary built on the idea that a child who meets a snake up close stops being afraid of it.

Summer Earth Adventures was the camp. This shirt went home with somebody at the end of a 2003 session, printed on an Anvil blank, reptiles and amphibians crowded across the front and the center’s name on the back.

Camp shirts are a category of their own. They exist in runs of a few hundred, get worn hard for one summer, and almost none are kept. What makes this one worth filing is not rarity in the collector’s sense — it is that the shirt documents a specific week, at a specific place, in a specific year, which is more than most garments can claim.

Somebody’s whole summer, in one shirt.
