Vintage Anheuser Busch Beer T-Shirt 90s

Hot pink with purple letters, which is not how anyone remembers beer merchandise. No eagle, no mountains, no can — just BUSCH in collegiate block type, outlined in white, on fuchsia. Marked © 1993 Anheuser-Busch and printed by Signal Sports.

The name has a better story than the shirt lets on. Gussie Busch bought the St. Louis Cardinals in 1953 and wanted to rename Sportsman’s Park after Budweiser. The commissioner wouldn’t allow a ballpark named for a product, so Busch named it for his family instead — Busch Stadium. Two years later the brewery launched a beer called Busch. The beer took its name from the stadium, which had taken its name from the family, which was the point all along.

It arrived in 1955 as Busch Bavarian, sold on the line “Clear and Bright as Mountain Air,” and didn’t become plain Busch until 1979.

A beer named after a stadium named after a family, printed in a color the beer never used.
