Vintage Atlanta Falcons Crewneck Sweatshirt 90s
Someone decided a sweatshirt should include mailing addresses. Under the crest, in flowing script, the shirt lists the team’s vital statistics like an encyclopedia entry: team colors, the training camp out on Suwanee Road at I-85 in Suwanee, Georgia 30174, the stadium at 521 Capitol Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia 30312, and — for anyone still wondering — the playing surface, grass.
That stadium address is what dates this thing. Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium was home to the Falcons from their 1966 debut until December 15, 1991, when they played their last game there and moved into the Georgia Dome. The old stadium came down by implosion in August 1997, and a parking lot went up where it stood. The shirt also has the team in the Western Division, which was accurate then and hasn’t been since the NFC realigned.
Made by Nutmeg Mills, one of the two or three names that dominated licensed sports fleece in this era.
A sweatshirt that will tell you exactly where to find a stadium that no longer exists.
