Vintage Property of Everlast T-Shirt 90s

The name was a warranty. In 1910 a 17-year-old Bronx kid named Jacob Golomb, son of a tailor and a serious swimmer, got fed up with swimsuits that fell apart in a season. He started making his own and guaranteed they’d hold up for a full year — so he called them Everlast.

Boxing showed up seven years later. Jack Dempsey, then an unknown, came looking for headgear that could survive more than fifteen rounds of training. Golomb built it for him, extended him credit on the rest of his gear, and in 1919 Dempsey won the heavyweight championship of the world wearing Everlast gloves. That was the end of the swimwear company.

Which makes a shirt like this a return trip. “Property of Everlast — Basic Gear” in a navy shield on heather gray, the brand selling clothes again eighty-some years after the swimsuits, on the strength of a reputation built entirely in a boxing ring.

A swimwear guarantee that turned into the most recognized name in boxing.
