Vintage Some Bunny Cares T-Shirt 80s
Through the 1970s, T-shirt shops spread across the country, many of them pressing designs onto blank shirts right in the store with a high-heat press. By 1978, RoAcH Studios, one of the biggest names in iron-on transfers, was grossing about $20 million a year. In the 1980s licensors tightened their control over designs, and RoAcH closed in 1987, the same year this shirt’s graphic was copyrighted.
T-Shirts Plus was one of those mall shirt shops. At the Mall of Memphis it was among the first specialized shirt stores, and it kept an airbrush artist on hand in the early to mid 1980s. Its name is on this shirt’s label.
The design leans on a pun. A lop-eared bunny with brown-and-white fur sits in a patch of orange and red flowers and deep green leaves, all in fine, stippled color, and “Some Bunny Cares” is set beside it in small dark letters. A © Teletrend Cols. OH ’87 credit sits in the corner, on a soft yellow tee.
A pun with floppy ears.
